Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a systematic inflammatory disorder, which primarily attacks the joints and many a times the tissues and the organs, leading to deformity of our body. Scientists of different countries, after research, have come to a conclusion that patients suffering from RA are more prone to Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD), which slowly but surely takes a patient towards death. The reason, in the death certificate, may show death due to CVD or some other causes, but the actual reason is RA, may not be revealed.
Though the real cause of RA is not yet proved, but we are well familiar with its consequences. Its consequences may vary from person to person. Patients, who are addicted to smoking and are positive to Anti-CCP, had acquired a high risk of dying from any other cause but specially from Cardio Vascular Disease. In RA, the kidneys are directly affected through a Vasculopathy or a Mesangial Infiltrate. Caplan’s Syndrome (which is a combination of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Pneumoconiosis that manifests as Intrapulmonary Nodules), which is a lung nodule in an individual caused by RA are some another reasons which leads to mortality.
Rheumatoid Arthritis primarily affects several joints causing pain, followed by swelling and stiffness. But this ailment does not drag a patient towards death. The actual reason that lies behind this is, we intake several types of drugs that we acquire from any counter or from prescription, may be the actual cause of death as our body does not have the ability to restrain those drugs causing severe side effects.
Patients suffering from RA find themselves in an awkward position to do their daily chores. It forbids them to do their regular activity like walking, playing, standing etc. and they deliberately get Voluntary Retirement from their professional life, waiting for a painful death within 10 to 20 years after their condition is diagnosed. In comparison with general people, who are suffering from other diseases, the life expectancy of patients having RA, on an average becomes shorter. Though RA primarily affects the joints but later can affect the entire body organs like lungs, kidneys, skin etc. RA restricts bone marrow to produce red cells, causing Anemia, which may be another cause of mortality. It is most common in men and women though women’s are likely to have developed RA three times more than men. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis is also spreading its trap towards the children, making a graveyard for them.
With the above research, one may estimate that RA causes no death as there is no record of death due to it. But we may certainly find that from inception of RA and within a period of 10 to 12 years of its completion, a patient may find it difficult to combat with their respective life. There is nothing to worry for those patients who follow a healthy and natural lifestyle. Advancement in Science and Technology can be very helpful to overcome this curse from the society.
