A tendon is nothing but a tough band of connective fibrous tissue that connects muscles to bone, is made up of collagen and the inflammation of these tendons is commonly called rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis. It is a type of tendinopathy, and people often mismatch it with more common tendinosis, which has some similarity with tendonitis but its treatment varies. It generally involves some body parts and has few types like Achilles tendonitis (which affects the Achilles tendon), patellar tendonitis (which affects the patellar tendon), rotator cuff tendonitis, etc
Causes of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis
Some causes of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis are strain, some skilled work like (carpentry, gardening, painting, etc), injury, overexertion, some games like (golf, volleyball, football, skiing, etc), some incorrect posture of sitting and standing, poor exercise before and after some sports, and some infection can cause tendonitis. This condition occurs in aged people as they lack of doing exercise and conditioning and had gone through several wear and tear conditions in their young age. Other than rheumatoid arthritis there is certain disease like gout, reiter’s syndrome, diabetes, lupus, etc which may cause tendonitis. Some antibiotics and steroids also increase the risk of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis. Tendonitis may occur in any area where the tendons are connected to the bones. Some affected areas may include knee, hip, base of the thumb, achilies tendons, elbow, shoulders, wrists, fingers, etc.
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis
The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis include many aspects like pain to the tendons and its surrounding areas, pain becomes severe when some calcium deposits are found in those affected areas, there may be a loss in the motion in the shoulder girdles also known as frozen shoulder, may cause some friction in the bones, due to its dryness, there may be a rupture in the tendons, causing severe pain and forbidding permanent movement of the bones and muscles, some complication arises when rotator cuff tendon gets tear off, causing prolonged pain and weakness in the shoulder.
Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis
Before treatment the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis becomes very important as some diseases appear very close to it and it may be sorted out by some blood tests and M R I scan.
Some initial treatment of rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis includes some rest, giving ice packs to the affected area, avoiding some treacherous activity, and using some anti inflammatory drugs. If the condition doesn’t improves doctors may go for other treatments like some steroids called costicosteroids, an injection directly pushed into the affected area in order to give relief to the patient from pain and inflammation, some therapies like range of motion exercise and splinting of thumb, fore arm, knees, elbows, etc are very important, some surgery which are very rarely required in this condition but becomes mandatory when other treatments fail to succeed. But as a whole rheumatoid arthritis tendonitis is a very rare disease, if its symptoms are revealed early, treatment can be very effective and may be eradicated from its root.
