Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory disorder and it seems to develop when your body’s immune system attacks your body cells and tissues around them. This inflammation affects the body fluids (bursae) that are helpful to muscles and tendons to move the joints easily. It affects the synovial joints like knee, hands, etc and the tubes in which one’s tendons move freely. There are primarily several symptoms of RA like, pain, inflammation, and stiffness to the joints and secondarily, it affects the different organs of your body creating some sort of disorder and malfunction to them. It is incurable and affects mostly to the women.
RA is incurable and leaves the patient in some discomfort. It may get fatal in due course of time, so its diagnosis is very important in its early stage. Diagnosis of RA involves many blood tests and X-rays. After its diagnosis, treatment becomes mandatory. Its treatment may involve some medicines like, NSAIDs, DMARDs, and some injection of steroids. Some mind and body therapies are also needed. To get the effect of the treatment, some sort of physical exercise is required to the patients perspective view. And at last some surgery also occurs if the disease gets worse.
Now a day’s many drugs are available in the market but have some serious side effects. Some of this types of drugs involves:
NSAIDs- Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are very helpful in primary stage of RA, to reduce pain and inflammation. Some of these drugs include ibuprofen (advil), and naproxen (alve). Doctors may also prescribe some stronger dose of this kind but the patient have a threat to get their liver, kidney, and stomach to get damaged.
DMARDs-Disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) is prescribed if NSAIDs do not work properly. These are prescribed to conserve the joints and other tissues from getting permanent damage or to avoid friction in the bones due to swelling. Some DMARDs includes methotrexate (trexall), hydroxycloroquine (plaquenil), leflunomide (arava), sulfasalazine (azulfidine), etc. These drugs, seriously effects the bone marrow, liver, and lungs.
Corticosteroids, is a type of drugs, directly injected into the joints to get immediate relief from pain. These steroids may be the cause of some infection and cancer.
TNF-Tumor necrosis factor (TNF), are helpful to reduce pain, inflammation, and mostly the stiffness. Some TNF includes infliximab (remicade), etanercept (enbrel), golimumab (simponi), etc. These too have some side effects like heart failure and cancer.
Therapies and surgeries
There are some mind and body therapies that help a patient to keep their joints flexible and reduce pain. And when medicines seems to fail or the patient wants an immediate result, may go through some surgery like total joint replacement, joint fusion, tendon and ligament repair, etc.
Other than these drugs and steroids, there are some natural treatments. Patients may feel to get this natural treatment if they get benefitted. But al last but not the least they may have a healthy lifestyle, good food, and some physical exercise to avoid this types of diseases.
